Trailer for the new Kickstart funded William S. Burroughs Doc by Yony Leyser. There are some Typographic crimes being committed here in the lower third but what can you do but let it slide. It’s Bill Burroughs and Leyser has brought together an impressive posse of people to talk about the man-I’m there…

The Let’s Colour project is “a worldwide initiative to transform grey spaces with vibrant colour.” This two minute video highlights their work in the first four countries they’ve initiated projects in.
I’ve always found Vancouver architecture far too conservative in it’s use of colour; you can count the towers that have embraced colour in their design on one hand. I’d love to see the city get a few hits of what the Let’s Colour project is delivering. Fight the grey!
Thanks to @popkinfiles for pointing this vid out.

I love the idea of creating neighbourhood flags. I’m not down with nationalism but I do like these distinctions on the city level. Check out what the good people at, well, Good have done with this idea. Thanks to The Post Family for pointing this one out.

I remember reading this article on Gary Changs’ 24 configuration Domestic Transformer apartment in the New York Times a while back but it was hard to imagine how all the transformations actually worked. This video adds some dimension to it all. Of interest to anyone concerned with the potential of small living spaces [which should be everyone, really]

I’ve been into the work of Josh Keyes lately. When I look at this stuff I feel like it’s local but since he operates out of PDX, originally from Tacoma, it must be the Cascadianess of it that I’m feeling. Be sure to check out all the great work on his site.

Not a full-blown mix from the Musique Large crew but just a little something to wet your appetite for a party they’re throwing in Paris on March 4. For me this will be the full meal since I don’t expect to be in Paris on that date. Grab it here Shit though — if you’re in Toronto on said date don’t be a fool — be sure to check out Fulgeance at the Drake!

It’s been nearly impossible to get anything done in Vancouver these last couple of weeks but somehow I’ve managed to listen to heaps of music — much coming in the form of really fine mixes.
First up a Fact mix courtesy of Lone. Grab it here and grab it fast - I’ve sat on this one and, as is always the case with Fact, there is an expiry date-this will be posted for about another week I think. This is a tight 45 minute mix that explodes in a haze of pixie dust and lube. I’m not one for spoilers but, obviously the question you are asking is, “yeah, but does Prince show up?” Yes, Prince shows up.
Musique Large presents volume 24 in their La Mixette series; Synthesize Me by BiteSize Beats out of Nottingham. Lovely stuff this Grab it here
Possibly the best for last: Fulgeances’ mix for Cosmopolyphonic Radio. Man, I love this dude. This is the soundtrack to some heavy movie I have to see. The scenario: In the first act Fulgeance drops you off in a chopper piloted by John Carpenter and Giorgio Moroder [warning: they’re replicants] what follows in the next 50 minutes is a slow steady heavy burn of a mix punctuated with chase scenes through synth-soaked streets, fire-fights and even romance. Not to be missed. Grab it. Bonus: if you like that may I also suggest this Fulgeance mix courtesy of allez-allez

I’ve been keeping an eye on Alex Roman as he’s been releasing footage of this work over the past months. If you haven’t viewed The Third & The Seventh yet, please, treat yourself to this beautiful, compelling CGI short film that uses the architectural spaces of Kahn, Calatrava and others as source material for his own unique vision. I don’t know how much it cost him to produce it but I’d definitely be interested in knowing how many of these he could have made for the amount Mr. Cameron spent on his most recent effort. I’ll take more Roman less Cameron, please. Full screen is best!

Tom Waits: It's Perfect Madness
This article has been floating out there on the interwebs for almost 5 years now and I had no clue until now. Tom Waits lays out his 20 most cherished albums of all time, rattling off a completely passionate and convincing case for each in no time flat. Magic.

Thanks to ?uestlove for saying what I'm feeling.
?uestlove of the Roots: “I am devastated over this but we all have memories. I just hope that he will get due justice in all the press memorials and whatnot. I know he was mired in controversy the last decade of his life but I think it’s time we let him rest in peace and learn to separate the ART and the ARTIST. That is the MJ I will forever remember. Elvis got revisionist media treatment. I expect the friggin same for my hero.”
I am an artist and graphic designer obsessed with all things music and photography. I operate out of the city of Vancouver in a northern land called Canada.
I post my photography at ||Listen||
